"Mrs. Shimp," says the self-important N first thing Friday morning. "I will be going to a convention today. We're leaving right after school."
"Really?" I say.
"Yes," he continues loudly. "I'm going with my mom. The convention is in Vegas."
A few other students have started gathering around.
"We'll be staying at a hotel called The Eight," he says. Another student, A, gasps and smiles. "Yeah, because of what you told me, A," says N. "Because you told me it was a good hotel, and I trust you, so that's the one I got. So we'll be staying there."
"There's a pool there!" A says excitedly.
"Yeah, I remember you said that," says N. "So that's why I'm bringing my swim clothes."
Oh the things you hear when you teach second grade.
